All Sorts of Things on Friday

Although we only started this last week, we’re changing things up a bit. So we originally named our Friday post as Meg’s Friday Favs, but honestly, after the hard week we previously had, sometimes life just kind of happens, and because not all is always the best, it’s ok to acknowledge the bad sometimes. Look, we’re all about positivity, and there are definitely ways to find the good in every situation, but it’s also okay to sometimes focus on what’s happening now, accepting it, and then moving on to make room for better days to come. Y’all it’s exhausting to always be positive, feel good, and act good, and it’s okay to acknowledge that maybe you’re not feeling good sometimes. So rather than only giving you the positive parts of my life, I want to share the not so great things too. You know, things happen day to day, All Sorts of Things actually, and that’s why our Friday post is now becoming more focused on just the things that are happening in life. Good, bad, happy, sad… all sorts of things need to be acknowledged because I truly believe that the first steps to growing in life are to acknowledge and accept what has happened, and take it day by day.

1. MY SISTER MOVED

Guys, I’m so excited for my sister! My sister, Katie, who has lived in Kansas City for some time now, has packed up and moved to Philadelphia! She’s never lived there before and doesn’t know anyone there, but her and her son Jeremiah, my nephew, are starting fresh! My nephew is going to college and is on the basketball team at Villanova, by the way – I am so proud of him, and because of this, my sister decided that maybe its time for a change, and maybe that change should start where he’s going to school! Guys, I so admire my sister. She’s a single mama that has given so much to her boy but does it with open arms, and not only is she the strongest person I know, she does everything with grace and love and brings light to everyone she encounters. This week we were so lucky for her to take an over-night stop on her journey, and stay at our home in Chicago. The kiddos loved seeing their aunt and cousin, and we enjoyed every second of them being here! U-Haul packed to the gill and all, my sister and nephew are making this drive together, and are so ready to embark on this journey. Good luck Katie and Jeremiah , we love you!

2. APPLE ORCHARDS

YES, we wen’t to the apple orchards this past weekend! It was such an incredible time guys. Seeing the kiddos have so much fun was just what we needed to end the tough week we had. Nothing is more cozy than picking some fresh apples, filling up our bushels, and going to town on the apple crisp I made when I  got home. Can you say yum? This fall thing guys, it’s just so incredible. There’s just something different in the air, but it’s something so welcoming, calming and even motivating – that gets you going no matter what may be going on in life!

3. JOE HAD THE HIVES

Although maybe this headline isn’t the most – ah-mayzing (in Joe’s voice), it has unfortunately been our reality this week! If you’ve been missing Joe from his Instagram stories – it’s because he’s had a bad case of the hives! Poor Joe was covered head to toe and hasn’t really been able to do much about it, other than to wait it out. Quick tip for anyone who may get some hives – bathe in oatmeal baths to soothe, and stop that scratching!

4. LAURA’S LAST DAY

Tonight we had to say “see you soon” to our dearest Au pair Laura. Au pairs are only allowed a 2 year visa and hers was up! We are in tears, Laura was a part of our family and always will be! She loved our boys so much and they adored her! She was here when wells started kindergarten, Brooks started preschool and when Finn was born. Laura, sweet girl, you are a sister to me and I love ya! Go spread your wings girly, you were meant to soar! Until we see you again, we love you!!

5. I MADE A COOKIE RECIPE

I was in the mood for a sweet treat this week y’all! I think it’s safe to say that a positive indulgence from time to time is a MUST.  I made a really quick and easy chocolate cookie recipe! It was so fun to mess up the kitchen just a bit with all these ingredients, and create something so delicious with the kiddos! You just have to try it!

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 F, soften the butter to get to a smooth and mushy texture, but not too melted! Mix the butter, sugar, vanilla, and egg! Add all the other ingredients, and then mix it all up to make the dough. Honestly, we just went in with our hands with scooping motions to get all the materials well mixed. When completely mixed, fold in chocolate chips. Scoop cookie dough to your desired size, throw some non-stick spray on your sheet pan, and place them in the oven! Cook until the bottoms turn a light brown toasty color, and there ya go- some amazing chocolate chip cookies!
