With tricks and treats, and witches and warlocks, Halloween is the ultimate spook-fest, starting off the seasons that bring coziness and chills in the air for the next few months to come! Every year we choose a different costume, and watch scary movies – But no matter the costume you decide to wear this year to celebrate, one thing for sure – black and orange are still going to be the colors that represent Halloween! And you know what? We want to take those colors and put them to the decor test! Can it be done? Do you think we can incorporate orange and black into our homes? Well, Today, we’re going to show you some ways to put Black & Orange to the test – and I promise, you are going to scream when you see it – well good screams that is.

Okay, so black decor is really just amazing if you ask me. Black is an amazing way to add some boldness and some contrast in a room that has a lot of neutrals, or actually needs a pop of color or lack of color in this case. When you add black to a room, one amazing way to integrate it is by integrating it with texture and material! Starting with some black metals, to black leathers, or even wood (especially with furniture). Without a texture, black can actually go unnoticed, because the color itself doesn’t reflect light, so with some added texture to it, it will attract some light and become an amazing accent in your home! But that being said, black needs to be used purposefully and carefully, because it can completely take over the space if not done correctly.

Furniture: Black furniture is one of my favorite ways to use the color. There’s something so beautiful about a buttery black accent piece, that just brings the room to completeness. Black is the perfect color to offset a neutral color to provide some contrast in the space as well, so if you want to go bold, but are afraid to use a bright color, try black to bring both a toned-down color but a pop as well!

Paint: Go on in and paint an accent wall black! I know, it sounds a bit scary and daring, but I’m telling you, it could be just the thing you need! A black wall kind of draws the room inward, making it seem very complete and satisfying!

Decor: Metal, metal, metal! Black metal is the way to go with some decorative elements. Things like lanterns, frames, candle holders, light fixtures, and all those fun things would be perfect to incorporate the color! Besides metal, going in with ceramic black vases, and black mesh lamps – can be a great way too! Wall art is also another way to add some black into the room, without overdoing it. If you want to go extra daring, try adding black tiles to your mantle or backsplash, to really bring out the color.

Upholstery & Textiles: Going in with a black leather or dark charcoal leather whether in an ottoman or on some dining room chairs, would be a great way to incorporate it without it completely taking over the space. When choosing some textiles, make sure to go in with things that have pattens with black included, like with pillows, or sheer if going with curtains. Sometimes throwing a bunch of black pillows on a couch, won’t do it justice – and may actually make it look cluttered and messy. Use black sparingly in textiles, and in ways, that’s only going to enhance the other colors around it.

Hardware: Last but not least, hardware is where to use black! Whether it’s the knobs on a dresser, cabinet, or a base on a piece of furniture – black is an amazing option to tone whatever piece down, and give it that last bit of pop before it’s finished!

Unlike black, orange can be a bit harder to decorate with – but there are also more options for it, if that makes sense. You don’t have to worry so much about texture when decorating with orange, because the color itself brings enough light and that pop that you’re looking for. When you think orange, it’s definitely safer to think along the lines of decor, and temporary fixes. Not saying that you can’t go and paint your wall orange, or some furniture, but just saying that if you want to keep it a bit more simple and use it as an accent, you have to think along the decor lines.

Upholstery & Textiles: This is where you start with orange! Whether you want to do a full upholstered orange accent chair or have specks of orange in it – orange would be perfect to offset some neutrals in the house as well. Adding come camel colored leather into the decor can be beautiful too! But the nice thing about orange is that you can go in with a full-on orange pillow, or throw blanket, and add some color to the space without worrying it will take it over. Orange really won’t, since it’s a brighter color, and doesn’t seem to complex on the eye. Adding some orange into a rug is also a great way to incorporate the color. Tea towels are also a great way to add the color to your kitchen!

Hardware: Although we may be straying a bit away from orange, going in with gold hardware is just simply amazing. Again like black, whether it’s a knob or base, it can bring a softness to the piece while still making a statement.

Florals: Although I didn’t mention it in black because it can be done not so often as orange can be, florals in orange is something that can really bring the color to life! Go in and add orange flowers and leaves into your floral arrangements or wreaths. With the colors usually lighter in floral arrangements, it will be the perfect pop to create an amazing accent color. But an actual flower isn’t all – going in with some orange floral wallpaper is literally to die for, and makes the perfect addition to any space that needs some boldness.

Seasonal Decor: This is where orange truly strive. Orange seasonal decor like pumpkins, leaves, candles, and all that fun stuff, is the way to go in with orange. It’s nice because you kind of can test the waters and see if you like orange for an accent, without actually committing to it!
