My Boys’ Bedroom Transformation

Alright, so we showed you all the various stages of this room in this recent post. This room started as a pseudo paint booth for MegMade, turned into a bedroom for my older son when my youngest was born, and now is going to be their shared big boy bedroom! When we decorated Well’s room the first time (I get restless, okay?) I did so with idea that it would be a shared bedroom soon. Well, then time came to actually move Brooks into that room with his older brother and I was sick of the decor.

Don’t get me wrong, it was cute, but I was sick of it. So I made some changes and I’m obsessed with how it turned out. I started by asking our welder to make two custom matching headboard frames. I wanted steel frames with brass studs and then a warm fabric center.

I love this orange wool fabric. I wanted to go for a bit of vintage feel, and it works perfectly with the steel. The structure of the room stayed the same. I repainted the campaign dresser in Farrow and Ball pointing to lighten things up a bit. I love going with Pointing because it makes the piece look really custom and I love it up against warm grays!

I thought we should add some Chicago love, so each bed is flanked by this cube pouf from Wrightwood Furniture. I wanted to play with mixing striped patterns, so we have some skinny stripes on the rug, some plaid on the pillows, and three thick stripes on the bed blankets. I wanted to stay in the neutral gray family so the headboards would really be the focal point.

The wall color in here has stayed the same. It’s Farrow and Ball Mole’s Breath, which is also an in-house color for our furniture. It’s such a beautiful medium gray. This room looks so much lighter now that I’ve brightened the color of the dresser, added white bedspreads, and large white artwork. It’s a basement room that doesn’t get a ton of light, so I’m happy with how it feels brighter now.

I’m so glad it finally all came together! Now my boys will go and make a mess of it I’m sure. Ahhhh the joys of parenting!
