Q&A – Do you paint pieces that people already own?
This is another top asked question for the MegMade team. It is asked by everyone – customers, designers and other furniture painters. The answer is yes, we do.
So many other painted furniture sellers have shied away from painting pieces that people already own and I totally get why. The stakes are high when it is a beloved family heirloom. However, we believe so much in our process and the artisans that work on them, that we know our customers will love them.
I would say about 1/3 of our business is now working on pieces that people already own, whether recently purchased at a thrift store or passed down through generations. We paint or re-upholster them and give them brand new life and it never gets old!
In fact, I absolutely love painting heirlooms because they have history. I love hearing why people are choosing to redo the piece and whose it was and how they are going to use it. I love it so much in fact that we just started a series called “If furniture could speak.” It is going to go through some of the stories of pieces we have worked on. If you love history, before and afters or design, you will love this series. The first post is from a friend Nicole, whose nursery wardrobe was passed to her from her mother. Here are a few good before and afters of pieces to show you just how your family heirlooms can be updated!
And isn’t this couch before and after dramatic?!?
Please send us an email if you have any questions regarding pieces you own! We’d love to help!
