UPDATING YOUR SPACE WITH PAINT & OTHER IDEAS!
Listen y’all, the last few days have been something of crazy! And I don’t know about you – but I am craving for some normalcy, AND it’s only the beginning. Not only have we gone through a daylight savings time change this past week, but we’re going through this worldwide health pandemic! Being that home is going to be a place we’re going to spend a lot of our time in the next few weeks- we all suddenly want a home makeover – it’s only natural, right? Typically, It’s around this time every year when we get that one day with a hint of spring in the air, that suddenly the inside of our homes are just not fit, and we want to change everything. Y’all I love change, but it’s hard to always lay out money to decorate, especially now. I mean, decor gets expensive, and it’s not always the easiest to change things from season to season when you want a new look. Here at MegMade, we’re all about keeping the old and repurposing it to make it new, and we know that every penny counts when it comes to saving money AND spending! There are so many ways out there to DIY and make some decor yourself, but believe it or not, changing a space can just be as easy as moving furniture around, and grabbing a paintbrush! So today, we’re going to give you some quick tips on how to decorate on a tight budget – and if you’re camping out indoors for the next few weeks – and I promise you are going to love them!
PAINT IS CHEAPER THAN NEW FURNITURE
Okay, this is really true. Rather than going out and buying a whole new piece of furniture because it seems outdated, or just doesn’t match the room anymore – PAINT IT! Y’all, you can get a decent brand paint for as little as $20 dollars, and you can literally transform your piece of furniture. If you check out our transformations on Tuesday, or head on over to one of our social media accounts, you can see the difference a little paint can make on furniture! If painting isn’t for you, you can go ahead with the cheaper option of stain! A stain is another great way to update your furniture, without breaking the bank!
BUY FURNITURE WITHOUT FINISHES
So, this kind of goes back to number one (which would be the second step of this), if you MUST buy new furniture, trying opting for a piece of furniture that is unfinished. Let’s say you want to redo your kitchen cabinets, and they really just can’t be updated with paint. Buy the cabinets unfinished, and paint them your desired color! Buying pieces unfinished can make a drastic positive change for your wallet, and can be a viable option if you are on a tight budget!
DIY ART WITH PAINT
Being stuck in the house, maybe let some of your stress out and make some art for your home! So there are a TON of hacks when it comes to wall art, or art n general and a ton of DIY tutorials out there, but let me tell you my favorite hack for doing some DIY wall art. If you want a quick DIY Grab a canvas, and get some paint and find a picture on Pinterest that you feel represents you and the space. Have fun with it – and go for it! If painting isn’t necessarily you’re go-to, another great art hobby could be to go through some old pictures this week, your favorite family photos, and frame them! Then get some pretty basic black frames, and create a vignette on your wall – that will literally look so amazing! There’s nothing better than using some photos that you already have, and making them a dual purpose by displaying them to decorate your home! Rather than tucking those photos away where you won’t see them, doing this will not only save you money but bring some happy memories into the home to admire.
CHANGING THE FLOOR PLAN
Without any spending, a great way to decorate or giving the room a makeover is by changing the floor plan up a bit. Sometimes all it takes is centering a large piece of furniture like a couch, or large table, in the center of the room, to really make it feel complete. When you have larger items, they can be used to anchor the room. Furniture can literally define a room just with a glance, so if you feel like your room is missing something, maybe try imagining the floor plan in a different way, and see if that helps before you nose dive into an expensive makeover!
COLOR YOUR HOME WITH PAINT & OTHER DECOR
Now, of course, going in with a pop of color on an accent wall, or going in with some paint on your kitchen cabinetry, can make all the difference! Although this may require some expense, if you really want a new look try adding some new pillows, a throw blanket, or even a new synthetic rug into the room – but in a different color than you normally would! Changing the color can bring a whole new vibe to the room, which will make you feel like you’ve changed things up, and got that need for a makeover (hopefully) out of your system! Sometimes all it takes is to go bold with color, and jump out of your comfort zone, to make a change for the better! Plus – you can get all these things for under $100 if you shop smart!
TAKE IT DAY BY DAY
If you suddenly get this urge to redo your entire home, take it day by day! And, with what the entire world is going through right now, we have to take it day by day! Do one room at a time, and when your budget grows a bit, go on and do the next room. I totally get wanting to redo everything at once and making things feel cohesive, but real talk – it doesn’t have to! As long as you take the steps to make your home feel more like you, you will enjoy every minute of it! Plus, decorating is so fun and so enjoyable, taking your time and doing it step by step will not only be a fun process but be a nice hobby as well!
