LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS HOSTING IDEAS
Whether you are hosting for Christmas OR Christmas Eve – y’all it is the last minute. But that’s okay – there is still time AND if your house is decorated for Christmas, then you’re already 3/4 done. Today, we’re going to quickly tell you how to quickly get your hosting in order – and I promise, no one will know it’s last minute!
MAKE A LIST, AND CHECK IT TWICE
Before ANYTHING! The best way to master last-minute planning is to make a list, and well, check it twice. Everything you possibly need to get done, write it down. All the food, all the decor, and anything that you WOULD LIKE to get done – which means, it’s not a necessity but an added bonus. Focus on those must’s first, and anything else you get done – is just that much better.
USE YOUR ORNAMENTS FOR DECOR
First things first, tables are always the main function for the night – I mean that is where everyone’s going to eat! If you haven’t decked your tables out yet, grab some extra ornaments and sprinkle them around the table! Yes, it’s that easy. If you have even some little time left, grab those same ornaments and get a permanent marker – and use them as place seatings! One ornament on each place setting will look literally amazing. None of this is for you? Then grab those ornaments fill a vase, or a lantern, or place them on a cake serving tray, and place that baby right in the middle of your table!
PREP THAT FOOD NOW
So if you’re having Christmas day at your house – then you NEED to start prepping all those little things TODAY! Maybe they only take a few minutes to make a salad dressing or a glaze, but y’all those few minutes count the day of, and we are trying to make your day as stress-free as possible. Start making those annoying little time consumers now, and even store them in the proper serve-ware! Desserts too. Those need to be done the day before. If you’re making cookies, storing them in a plastic bag will keep them extra moist and soft! Same with brownies, storing them in a sealed container or bag will make them taste even better than right out of the oven.
IF YOU HAVE TIME TO RUN TO THE STORE
Trick of the trade: BUY DISPOSABLE! If you have some time, run to the store and grab those plastic disposable trays that are usually sold at a dollar store. Mixing them in with your other decor, and placing some Christmas linens on top to lay flat before you put the food – will bring restaurant vibes to the space. Plus, usually serving ware is heavy – these will make for an easy, 1, 2, 3 clean up. And after a whole few days of prepping – you are SO going to want that!
SO MANY THINGS TO DO WITH EXTRA RIBBON
I’m sure you’ve been wrapping gifts like crazy, and if you have been there’s a good chance you have some extra ribbon around, right? If you do, go on and tie your napkins or utensils with a little ribbon to make for an extra fancy place setting. If that’s not enough, try tying some ribbon around the serving bowls, to make for some more Christmas decor! Think outside the box here y’all – I’m sure you all have something you can use that ribbon for, and not only will it make the house look more festive, but it can be used as a functional purpose too!
If you are not loving the wrapping paper table idea, going in and tagging foods with gift tags can be just the thing to keep some organization! Hey, even using gift tags as place seatings will work amazingly. There’s always something you can label, even if you’re displaying the dessert in a tray or box, adding that label looks like you went that extra mile, when all you really did was stick one of those babies on, I mean literally a 2-second hack!
FRESHENING UP THE HOUSE
Nothing is worse than feeling like you don’t have enough time to clean the house the way you wanted! First things first, take a breath and do a quick dusting, and vacuum and you will be fine. To make your house seem extra fresh though if you have some nutmeg, apples, oranges, and even some cinnamon in your kitchen, throw it in a pot on the stove and boil. Why? The aroma will make the house smell like Christmas amazingness, and will bring some just cleaned for hours vibes your way!
EXTRA WRAPPING PAPER
Now, this is DEFINITELY one of my favorite quick tips to do during the holiday – ESPECIALLY if you have a kids table set up. Instead of using the typical linings and want something a little different this year, try using wrapping paper as a table cloth! Not only would it be super cute, but you can grab a few crayons and markers and let the kids draw to keep them occupied during dinner! The best thing is, you can turn up the notch and use a permanent marker to label all the foods that are on the table! Or if you don’t want to go all the way with the wrap, try doing just a table runner!
TRASH BAG HACK
This may not be something that crosses your mind, but especially if you’re going disposable, and if you’re opening gifts with your family – line your garbage bag with 5 trash bags! I promise you’ll thank us later! You are going to go through garbage bags fast, and if you want to try to keep things organized and flowing smoothly- this will save you that time you so need!
