The best furniture is made to be opened up, sanded down, reglued, reupholstered, and handed to the next person. That’s the standard vintage pieces were built to, and it’s the same standard we hold ourselves to with every piece we touch.

I’ve watched this shift happen in real time, on our showroom floor and in the DMs we get every week. People aren’t just looking for something that looks good in a photo anymore. They want something that means something.

There’s actual research behind this, not just my gut feeling from fourteen years of doing this. Younger buyers especially are driving a real surge in demand for vintage and antique pieces, the kind with actual character and a story behind them. The design world has started giving it names, “modern heritage,” “grandmacore,” “folklectic,” take your pick. But underneath all the labels, the instinct is the same one I had standing in front of that old dresser: people want things that feel real, and they want them to last.

There’s a sustainability piece to it too. The most eco-friendly piece of furniture is the one that’s already been made. Every time we refinish instead of replace, we’re keeping something solid out of a landfill instead of adding to the mountain of “fast furniture” that wears out in a couple of years.

And there’s an investment piece to it. Vintage furniture holds value in a way flat-pack furniture never will, because it was never designed to be disposable in the first place.

Why This Work Still Gets Me Every Time

I could talk trends and statistics all day, but honestly, the real reason I love this work is simpler than any of that.

There’s something almost sacred about taking a piece nobody wanted and giving it a second story. A chair that held three generations of a family gets to hold a fourth. A dresser that almost hit a landfill gets to hold someone’s kid’s clothes for the next twenty years.

That’s not just furniture. That’s legacy, sitting in your living room.
