Lately, I have been thinking a lot about how many homes are starting to feel visually similar. Not because people do not have style, and definitely not because there is a lack of beautiful inspiration out there, but because we are surrounded by so much of it all the time. We are constantly seeing polished spaces, dreamy rooms, perfect layouts, and beautifully styled corners, and of course that shapes the way we think about home.
But the most important part of design does not start with inspiration. It starts with you.
It starts with the way you live, the people you live with, what your family needs, what your days look like, what brings you comfort, what helps your home function well, and what makes a space feel personal to you. That is the part that matters most, and sometimes it gets a little lost when people are trying so hard to make the “right” choices.

One of the biggest things I have learned through working in design is that the best homes are not the ones that look the most like everyone else’s idea of beautiful. They are the ones that feel deeply connected to the people living inside them. A great home reflects your values, your routines, your personality, your season of life, and the way your family actually moves through the day.
If you love to host, your home should support that. It should welcome people in and make gathering feel easy. If you have a big family, or little ones running around, that should shape your decisions too. The pieces you bring in, the fabrics you choose, the rugs under your feet, the upholstery on your sofa, all of it should make sense for real life. If you love to travel, meet new people, and experience different places and cultures, maybe your home reflects that through color, collected pieces, warmth, and personality. If you want your home to feel calm, soft, and grounding, that matters just as much.

That is what makes a home interesting. Not just that it is beautiful, but that it feels true.
When homes begin to feel too similar, it is often because people are making choices based more on what they are seeing than on who they are. We are all unique for a reason, and our homes should reflect that in thoughtful ways.
Some homes are meant to feel lively and full of energy. Some are meant to feel restful and quiet. Some are built around hosting, conversation, and people always coming through the door. Others are built around family rhythms, cozy nights, and spaces that can handle a lot of real living. None of that is wrong, and none of it has to look the same.
That is something we have learned again and again through working with our customers and design clients. One of the most valuable parts of the process is helping people get clear on what makes sense for them. Sometimes what people really need is not more inspiration, but more clarity. They need support, vision, creativity, and professionalism brought together in a way that helps them make decisions with confidence.
Because what makes a home unique is not the trend or the formula.
It is you.
Your family.
Your values.
Your habits.
Your life.
That is where great design starts.
