The Design Choice You Keep Saving but Haven’t Been Brave Enough to Make - Meg’s Tuesday Design Tips

The Design Choice You Keep Saving but Haven’t Been Brave Enough to Make - Meg’s Tuesday Design Tips

One thing I’ve noticed working with clients is that their inspiration photos usually say a lot more than they think.

It’s not always, “I want this exact room.”

Sometimes it’s…

I think I’m ready for more color.
I think I want something with more personality.
I think I’m tired of everything feeling so safe.
I think I want my home to feel warmer, moodier, softer, bolder, more like me.

That deep paint color you keep saving?
Maybe it’s not because you need that exact room.

Maybe it’s because you’re drawn to how grounded it feels.

That bold piece of art?
Maybe it’s not about finding the same one.

Maybe it’s because you’re ready for your home to say something.

That textured chair, patterned sofa, or unexpected fabric?
Maybe it’s your eye starting to crave depth and character.

That wallpaper you keep coming back to?
Maybe it’s not too much.

Maybe it’s just new to you.

And that is where good design gets exciting.

Because sometimes the thing you keep saving is not a final answer.
It’s a little clue.

A clue that your taste is growing.
That your home is ready to feel more personal.
That you might be ready to make one decision that feels different from what you would have chosen a year ago.

And I think that’s beautiful.

I’ve felt this in my own home too.

Sometimes the pieces that end up meaning the most are the ones that felt a little bold at first.

The color that felt like a risk.
The piece of art that made me pause.
The fabric that wasn’t the “safe” choice.
The detail that felt different from what I thought I was supposed to do.

But once it’s in your home, and it feels like you, you realize that maybe it wasn’t too much.

Maybe it was the thing the room was waiting for.

Design is not about copying a picture perfectly.

It’s about learning to trust what keeps catching your eye and understanding why it does.

So this is your reminder:

Go back to the photos you keep saving.

Look past the furniture.
Look past the exact colors.
Look past the perfect styling.

Ask yourself: what is this showing me that I’m almost ready to try?

Maybe it’s a moodier wall.
Maybe it’s a bold fabric.
Maybe it’s an antique piece with a little more soul.
Maybe it’s a rug with color.
Maybe it’s a room that finally feels less like everyone else and more like you.
