WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN INTERIOR DESIGNER

Whether you're choosing an interior designer to remodel you're entire house or just a powder room, you want to make sure you find the right fit. Just remember, you're going to have to live with the space for a while, so it's worth it to do a little bit of research beforehand! Here are some tips I have for what to look for when you’re looking for an interior designer:

Identify Your Style

The first step in the process of finding/working with an interior designer to put together your space is to identify the look you're wanting to go for. If you don't already know - that's ok!! Your design style is ever-changing ... mine is completely different than from when I was in my 20s! Look on places like Pintrest to get some ideas of room designs you gravitate towards to get an idea of what you want the overall look to be. This is important and plays into my next suggestion, because you want to find a designer who connects with your vision and style!

Make Sure Their Portfolio Matches Your Style

Once you get an idea of the look you're trying to emulate, ask to see some interior design work from each of the designers you're considering and see if their style matches yours. I think the best way to go about finding an interior designer is to choose someone who gravitates to things you love. It can be challenging as a designer to choose things for clients when their tastes are the complete opposite as yours. Y'all know I love a challenge, but sometimes it gets tricky! Do a little research on the designers you're deciding between on the front end and it will pay off when they're naturally able to put together a room you're in love with.

Make Sure They're Willing To Work With Your Budget

My biggest piece of advice to consider when looking for an interior designer is to make sure they know when to pay a little extra for something quality vs. when it makes sense to go a little cheaper. Make sure you set a clear budget with your designer in your initial meeting to make sure they can work within your budget.

Clear Communication

Before you start working with a designer, make sure you both are able to have clear communication! Try to be as clear as you can about what you're looking for, what the expectations are, and how the process will work. It's important to have clear communications so both parties know what they should expect in order to end up with the best design possible!

Be Inspired

Make sure the person you choose to put together your design inspires you!! The fun part about hiring an interior designer is that they sometimes push you out of your comfort zone -- and it ends up being your favorite room in the entire house! It's easy to revert back to the way you would have picked things out if you were doing it on your own, but take in the advise of the interior designer and let it inspire you -- that's how you end up with a room that looks and feels like it was professionally designed vs. personally designed.

Compare Design Fees

Comparing design fees is another thing to look for when looking for an interior design fees to hire. Ask about design fees and what comes with those design fees. For examples, here at MegMade we offer design services & each higher package level offers more and more benefits with the package. If you're looking to compare a few firms or designers take things such as: overall cost, discounts, delivery, etc. into consideration before you make your final decision.

I hope some of these tips help to make your search easier the next time you're looking to hire an interior designer.
